Ski Tunnel

The tunnel was built to improve the summer training facilities of top athletes and recreational skiers. The length is 1,2 km, width 8 m which makes it possible to train both classical and free technique into both directions. The height difference is 18 m and the total climb 51 m. The temperature in the tunnel is –2 – 7 C° and temperatures up to –18 C° are possible. In the first snow season there is a connection from the tunnel to the outdoor track and biathlon stadium. The tunnel is open from May to December and also in winter at times when it is too cold to ski outdoors.

Ski Tracks/Hiking Routes

The beautiful scenery and varying terrain has been taken into consideration when planning and building the routes. Vuokatti Sports Institute is the starting point of the routes. The route network can be used throughout the year, in winter as ski tracks and in summer as versatile hiking routes. The difficulty ranges from ”easy” to “very demanding”. The famous Vuokatti Hike runs over the tops of 13 hills to Vuokatti Sports Institute.

Snow-making/First-snow Track

The snow making system ensures the earliest possible start of the training
season. The first attempts were made in the middle of 80’s and today we can use 5-7 snow canons. The new water cooling system gives possibilities to make snow already at temperatures from -2 ° C on.

To ensure the skiing conditions as early in the autumn as possible we use to produce a snow depot of 20 000 – 25 000 m³ in March. The depot is stored under sawdust and covers to wait for the use in the autumn. This method has been a successful one, the reduction after the summer has been surprisingly unsignificant.

Biathlon Stadium

The roller-ski track of 4,5 km and also the first-snow track lead to the shooting range which makes the training more comfortable for biathletes. There are 30 shooting lanes, a part of them are covered in the summertime.

Training times can be booked at Sports Institute sales service, tel. 08-6191 500. The training turns are fixed at the reception one day before the training day and the fee must be paid there too. The training fee price is 20€/ /day/athlete, one year’s pass 300€. Please note: The fee is included in the camp price of the guests of Sports Institute.

Jumping Hills

The Sports Institute has four hills that can be used throughout the year. For beginners and juniors there are HS 15, HS 35 and HS 50 hills with lift. For more experienced jumpers there is the HS 100 hill with wind net, landing area lift and two types of inrun tracks. The hill record is 105,5 m by Taku Takeuchi, JPN. Jumping hill fee is 20 €/day/athlete. The training sessions can be booked and paid at the reception. For those staying at Vuokatti Sports Institute the fee is included in the camp price.
